Identity

The identity of Te Manawataki o Te Papa is grounded in the land, history, and people of Te Papa, shaped through partnership with mana whenua and the cultural narratives of this place. These values are expressed through four Pou, reflecting enduring connections to movement, water and life, occupation, and custodianship. Together, they guide the design of the precinct, shaping the form of its buildings and spaces to create a place for community, storytelling, and connection.
